Te Rau Mātāpuna o Taranaki is a core component of Project Maunga, a multi-stage programme to modernise and future-proof Taranaki Base Hospital. This 6-storey, 22,000 sqm facility brings the region’s critical acute services – including emergency, ICU, maternity, radiology,and laboratories – into one purpose-built building. It includes 151 patient spaces, 42 of which are designated for inpatient care, and features a rooftop helipad.
The facility’s design integrates best-practice sustainability principles with modern clinical standards. It is the first public health facility in Aotearoa New Zealand to achieve a 5 Green Star design rating, reflecting a strong focus on environmental performance and occupant wellbeing.
